The Methodological Charter, “Do Not Go Beyond What Is Recorded,” is included near the beginning of the volume because it governs the evidentiary discipline of every subsequent chapter: direct statement before assumption, whole witness before isolated phrase, command before tradition, necessary inference before possibility, and humility where God has not spoken.
